Vacancy Announcement

The Himalayan Education and Development (HEAD Nepal) is a non-profit making, non-political, and local non-governmental organization working for the empowerment and overall development of people with disabilities in the Himalayan region of Nepal. It is the only one leading and pioneering organization in the field of persons with disability in Humla district. In partnership with Mission East, HEAD Nepal is going to implement the project titled “Children and Hunger: reducing hunger and improving nutrition amongst the children with disabilities and other marginalized children in remote mountain villages of Humla”. In this regard, HEAD Nepal is seeking innovative, self-motivated and dynamic personnel for the following positions.

1. Agriculture Specialist: Based in Humla district headquarter, with frequent travel to field bases. 1
  • Lead overall agriculture and livelihood activities implementation in the project
  • Prepare training curriculum and schedule as per the field plan related to livelihood, food security like house-plots, vegetable production, farmers group capacity building, agri-infrastructure, value chain and market development related to fresh vegetable production and livestock production
  • Provide regular technical support to Junior Technician to implement agriculture and livelihood activities
  • Design and adjust agriculture and income generating programs with efficiency and effectiveness
  • Maintain close and regular contact with relevant line agencies at district and VDCs
  • Support Project Manager to manage database system for project beneficiaries
  • >Collect and compile field based data and activities implemented at field and report to Project Manager
  • Collect and document case studies, success stories and best practices for dissemination
  • Support any other activities as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • Bachelor Degree in Agriculture Science with minimum 5 years working experience desired
  • Proven experience in building capacity of people in agriculture approach and technologies
  • Ability to prepare training manuals related to agriculture and livelihood methodologies
  • Excellent English and Nepali writing and speaking skills will be preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially on Microsoft Office package and Internet applications.


2. Junior Technician:Based in field (VDCs of Humla) 4
  • Facilitate agriculture and livelihood activities implementation at VDC level
  • Build rapport and coordinate among the stakeholders, agro-vet service centers, FUGs and CFUGs to promote the livelihood options of the targeted beneficiaries
  • Ensure effective and timely implementation of the planned and approved activities and strategies in the targeted VDCs
  • Provide agricultural technical knowledge as well as technical back-stop sto the communities for the construction of house-hole plots, kitchen gardening etc.
  • Implement the agriculture and income generating programs with efficiency and effectiveness
  • Support any other activities as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • Junior Technical Assistant (JTA) training or Intermediate Degree in Agriculture Science
  • Proven experience in community level mobilization, training, and influencing livelihood initiatives.
  • Good English and Nepali writing and speaking skills will be preferred.

3. Community Facilitator Based in field (VDCs of Humla). 5
  • Responsible for the overall community mobilization to implement the Nutrition program activities at VDC level.
  • Provide facilitation and establish strong rapport with VDC stakeholders, and local people.
  • Facilitate community meetings, dialogues, empowerment, and governance, and document evidence and lessons learned.
  • Draft activity and other reports as per the project requirements.
  • Participate in assessments, monitoring, and information and data collection activities.
  • Support any other activities as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • Intermediate/10+2 in any discipline with passion to work with communities, including training and influencing local people is desirable. 
  • Candidates with ANM, Community mobilization, other technical education will be given additional preference.
  • Good English and Nepali writing and speaking skills will be preferred.
  • Other exceptional candidates with compatible experience will also be considered.

Job Description for the Volunteer:

The Disability Information Advisory Services (Help Desk), a project in collaboration of Head Nepal and Women and Children Office Humla is looking for passionate individuals willing to work as a volunteer in order to make every service/support or information accessible for disabled people and their network at the central office in Simikot Humla. The candidate must be an individual with disability and should be self-inspired, motivated, and eager to learn and output oriented.

The main role/duty of the volunteer will be to provide independent and free information and advice to disabled people, their families, friends, colleagues, caregivers, service providers and the general public. This support service may include specific information in regards to particular disability, family counseling, encouraging and motivating the disabled people themselves, And more over it is to find right services for the right persons with disability and to make all the services/facilities accessible and available for the persons with disability and their community. The following will be specific duties/responsibility of the volunteer:

  • To inform people with disabilities and disabled people's Organization with available services and support from government and non-government organization. Such as, free education and scholarship, free health services and location, the location where assistive devices can be obtained free of cost, process of obtaining disability identity card and significant/use of it, provision of concession on public transport, and other support services available for people with disabilities.
  • To manage the Help Desk with proper information related to disability issue and updating them regularly/timely.
  • To provide necessary counseling service to the parents of the people with disabilities.
  • To document and update the disability related news paper, magazine, books, pamphlets, Posters, research reports, and other related materials.

Call for Application for 3 Months Basic Computer Skill Training:

The HEAD Skill Development Center, a project by Head Nepal together with Cottage Industry Development Committee Humla is happy to announce a call for Application for the candidates from marginalized and socially overlooked community throughout Humla district for 3 months basic computer skill training. The training will take place in Simikot from the 1st of paush to the last falgun 2071. Total seat is 12 but 3 seats will be for the people with disability. People from marginalized and and backward community are highly encouraged to apply. The last date-line for application is 28th of Mansir 2071. The training will start from the 1st of Paush 2071.

Eligibility:

Applicant who fails to meet any of the following criteria will not be eligible for the training.

  • Applicant must be from Humla district.
  • Applicants must have formal educational qualiry greater than test or S.L.C.
  • Applicant must be age between 16 and 45.
  • Applicant must have a sense of technology
  • Applicants must be interested in learning computer skills.

Requirement for Application:

  • Applicant should fill up the application form available in Head Nepal Office.
  • A copy of personal motivational letter
  • A copy of Academic certificate higher than test or S.L.C.
  • A copy of Nepali Citizenship Card and (disability identity card for persons with disabilities)
  • Application must be submitted on the 28th of Paush 2071 latest.

All applicants are requested to attend direct interview held in Head Nepal Office in Simikot on 29th of Mansir 2071. The final 12 successful candidates will be announced on the 1st of paush. The decision of the selection committee will be the final and no appeal will be entertained then.
